Page Lake Powell AZ 2016

As always we got on the road fairly early, and said goodbye to Lake Havasu City, AZ.   Our first stop was Page, AZ.   We left 80's weather only to see bits of snow just prior to reaching Flagstaff, AZ.

We drove I40 to hwy 89 north.  We were told by a park neighbor that 89 was a terrible drive, however, except for a short bumpy section the remainder of the drive was fine and very scenic. Our biggest problem was the windy, gusty weather.

Once in Page, we arrived at our campground ( Page Lake Powell RV Campground).  This park is not designed to have level sites, however, it's not a bad park, and works just fine for overnights, and/or a few days.  They have an indoor pool and hot tub, laundry facilities, fitness center, and a beautiful view.
Once settled, Kirk and I took a ride around Page and came across the scenic view overlook for the Glen Canyon Dam.  Wow, what a beautiful site!  It's a creative walk down to the view, but worth every step and shortness of breath ( we are slightly out of shape).

Talked someone into taking our pic.  My hair caught the wind or vice versa.
Now for the walk back up 😳

After reaching our truck, Kirk and I drove around blindly and came upon the Wahweap Overlook.  You drive up this road with nothing but dessert on all sides, then you get to the top and OMG! It just takes your breath away.  Talk about Gods country!  Spectacular views.

See the snow on the mountain top in the background?

Sunday, 4/18 we had reservations to take the Hummer tour to Secret Canyon.   There was one other couple, and our guide, James.   James was awesome.  He is half Navajo and knows the reservation well.  He took us on a wild ride to and from the canyon, driving along the sides of sand hills, and even a little rock climbing with the hummer.  On our short trek to the canyon from the Hummer, James pointed out all the plants, herbs, etc, and explained their use.  He told us about the crypto biotic soil which protects the sand and which we were forbidden to walk on. He also pointed out the cliff rose, which when consumed is a natural epicac, the green ephedra tea plant, the yucca plant, evening primrose, sage, and many more.   During the tour in the canyon, James gave us many tips on different uses of our camera to get the best pictures.   He also answered our many questions always having a smile on his face.   After returning from the tour, Kirk and I drove over to Horseshoe Bend and took the 15 minute walk down, and 45 min walk up ( uphill and we are out of shape).  It was totally worth the walk to see it.

See the tracks on the side of the hill?  We did that and a few others.
Look closely at the black crypto biotic soil covering the sand.
If you eat this it will literally make you puke. Pretty plant though
